On the national front the hot news is the summary abolition of Regional Spatial Strategies by the stroke of Eric Pickles’ pen on 27 May 2010. The new coalition Government team at the Department for Communities and Local Government, headed by Mr. Pickles as Secretary of State (an appointment that came as a surprise to many).
